How To Properly Take Care Of Your Fine Bed Linens

September 13th, 2012

I just LOVE climbing into a bed made with white, crisp, freshly ironed bed linens.  It is a simple task that can make turning in for the night a special treat!!! And so so worth it.

Here are some laundry tips to help your fine linens last forever………

Washing Your Fine Bed Linens-
Be sure to separate dark and light colors.  Since I only use white- this is
not an issue.

Allow your machine to fill with warm water and begin agitation before adding your detergent.

Do not over load the washing machine as it can cause a break down of
the fibers.

Whether your linens are Egyptian cotton, pure linen, or a cotton/linen blend,
they should be washed in warm water with a gentle detergent and a final rinse
of cold water.

Remove promptly and shake out linens to reduce wrinkling and shorten drying time

Drying Your Fine Bed Linens-
Line drying your bed linens is the ideal way to dry them because it leaves them basically wrinkle free and smelling SO FRESH but your dryer on the proper settings will also work.

Just remember not to over dry by using a setting that is too hot- set on permanent press which
will cool down at the end of the cycle.

Remove promptly to reduce wrinkling and smooth your linens out.  Finger press the edges, border
and flanges.

Ironing Your Fine Bed Linens-
Washing and drying your linens properly will help them last for years.  They will become softer
and wrinkle less with age.

Iron your bed linens while they are still damp. Use a good steam iron and refer to the label for the appropriate settings. If there is embroidery iron on the reverse side to prevent damaging it.

Don’t use spray starch if you plan to store your linens as this tends to attract silver fish.
