Bookshelves Should Be A Decorative Element

Libraries have bookshelves filled from top to bottom with books
BUT
when it comes to bookshelves in rooms of our homes they
need to be a decorative element.

The way to create an inviting shelf-scape is usually as simple
as leaving a bit of space between your books.  Adding interesting
objects that could right now be hiding in a drawer or closet could make
its debut onto your bookshelves- pictures, small paintings, boxes,
plants, special shell, rock or stick from a trip, baskets, candlesticks, antique
platter, pottery…..and you get the idea.

Wallpaper covered ceiling

One of our new favorite things right now is wallpaper-covered ceilings! When paint and accessories aren’t doing the job, try covering your ceiling with good-looking wallpaper. Not only does it look great, but it’s also creative and easy. This is a great way to incorporate a fun and graphic print into a space without going overboard.

5 easy interior design tips to improve the look and feel of your home.
When it comes to the interior design in your home, often times homeowners become easily confused about the route they want to take or the design style they want to incorporate into their home. With so many styles, ranging from traditional, modern, retro, shabby chic and beyond, there comes a time to decide a personal design aesthetic.

An interior designer can help you pull your look together by helping you determine your personal likes and dislikes.  You can start this process while flipping through a design magazine or television channel or even movie sets in a movie. Here are five quick and easy interior design tips to help get you started.

Fresh Paint

Everyone knows that one of the easiest ways to transform a room is with paint. Sometimes a boldly painted wall can change the mood of a room in an instant. For a brighter room, opt for a soft yellow or light green. For a more dramatic, yet fun environment, go with a peacock blue or retro orange. Adding texture to a painted wall is another option. This can be done with a wonderful textured wallpaper, wood paneling either vertical or horizontal
and venetian plaster finishes…just to name a few and depending on the look that you are after.

A Great Piece

Another simple way to create a focal point in a room is to have an eye-catching piece of furniture or accessory that makes the room interesting.

Art

Other than paint, look for other ways to decorate the walls of the room. Search for original paintings or photographs, blown glass pieces, built-ins  and interesting finds that can be mounted on the wall that give interest in the the room. Look for alternative places to shop, like flea markets, estate and garage sales.

Lighting

Lighting is another easy way to spruce up a room. Determine lighting needs in the room and have a different lighting-floor lamps, tabletop lamps, wall light sconces, chandelier. Dimming lights are essential and always a nice touch to a room. Interested in other types of lighting? Candles are always an interesting interior design choice, because not only are they available in different sizes, colors and scents, but they also create a softer mood and look to a room.

Rugs

Area rugs are another easy fix to a drab living space and make it more inviting. Rugs come in a variety of shapes and sizes and the options are endless when it comes to color scheme options.
